Witness Protection Program and Instagram Don’t Mix

I’m not going to lie. It was chilly. I mean, yeah, yeah it’s Hawaii, but it was 63 degrees, the sun was just starting to rise and we were about to jump in the water in the middle of the ocean to snorkel off of a Zodiac Raft. Wait… what? Am I seriously bitching about the cold? I’m in Kauai, about to embark on an extraordinary oceanic expedition!

Picture of Captain X.. no face. #witnessprotectionprogram

I’m about to snap a photo of our Captain as he holds out his hand as if I’m trying to pulverize him and says “EXCUSE me… I do not appreciate being photographed. The witness protection program doesn’t really work if my face is blasted all over your social media pages”. He then delved into a long speech about how we are wasting our brains on our smart phones and how they are actually making us stupid. He said “Why don’t you put your phones down for the next three hours and just enjoy nature? Take pictures with your minds. Your brain will last much longer then the battery in that phone. Be present. I promise you all of those ‘likes’ you are going for aren’t worth what you will actually experience if you put the damn phone away.”

Heard Cap’n. Heard.

Phone away (for now), and the adventure begins.

A Zodiac is a small water craft/raft that sits super close to the water. It’s wet. It’s bumpy. It’s tremendously FUN.

The colors in the sky are just starting to change from dark purple to periwinkle when off to the right we see our first Humpback Whale breach out of the water. She was welcoming us and her friends and baby were short to follow. We had front row seats to an epic water show that was seemingly put on just for us. We all sat in silence. No phones. Eyes glued to the horizon. Our faces wet with mist, a manifestation of the breaching passed. Quiet puffs of air, faintly escape these 70,000 lb ballerinas as they dive back to the deep blue.

Wow! Up next…Spinner dolphins to the right, pods of bottle nose dolphins on the left and 3 GIANT Manta Rays in front of the boat. Amphitrite was sure was putting on a show for us today!

The snorkeling was alright but the actual boat ride is where it was at! Thank you Kauai Sea Riders for an wondrous morning on the sea!
